A "Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play" fanfic
Set just after Viz manga episode #12 (Reaching Out)

Two hands reached out into the night. They caught 
Miaka by the throat. Then the abductor ran, leaving 
only the echo of footprints in the mounds of leaves.

"Miaka!" Tamahome shouted. Without a moment's pause, 
the man ran. He left behind his companions and 
consorts--the troops he had gathered, as well as 
Nuriko. Alone, he burst into the cloud of trees. "I 
don't care who you are," he told the enemy, "but 
you're not going to have the priestess of Suzaku!"

To his ears, there came not a sound, only the 
whispers of the foliage. (Damn it all, Miaka,) the 
Constellation told himself, (Where have you 
disappeared to now?)

More footsteps arrived on the scene. At last, the 
dogs of war had arrived. "Tama-kins!" Nuriko shouted 
from several meters back, "Don't... pursue this 
enemy any further!"

Being a man of valor, if not incredible intelligence, 
Tamahome froze in his tracks. "What do you mean? 
Spit it out at once," he told Nuriko. To stop his 
pursuer, he extended one leg out to an appropriate 
height. The gesture kept Nuriko from approaching him, 
much less embracing him.

"Well..." Nuriko said, taking baby steps backward, 
"It would seem... that we are dealing with someone 
who is rather mysterious... not to mention dangerous."

He didn't move. "What the hell do you mean by that?" 
he shouted at the would-be lover.

"You'll see," Nuriko replied. He winked at Tamahome, 
and approached one of the thousands of oak trees. 
Immediately, he shook the tree from its very 
foundation. Miaka and an unfamiliar man fell from 
it, although only the former landed in Tamahome's 
arms. The blue-haired stranger contacted the grass 
with his behind.

"My fellow warrior says that you're a mysterious, 
dangerous person," Tamahome said. The Star set 
Miaka on her feet, and turned to the enemy. He 
snarled as he placed his foot down next to the foe's 
midsection. "Explain your action immediately."

The man rose to his feet. His eyes were closed as 
he placed a forefinger up to his mouth. "That..." 
he said, "is a secret."

IN CONCLUSION...

Hoo boy. Can't believe I thought up *this* one.

Wanna know what inspired this? Hearing that Chichiri 
was a "mysterious monk." That, and the fact that he 
has blue hair (though not as dark as the individual 
who was crossed over).

Oh... you probably noticed the total lack of fanboy 
dialect. That's my style. While I found the dub 
enjoyable, the Viz manga is much too amusing for 
me to pass by. Although I might eventually try the 
sub to see what everyone's been talking about, I'll 
be sticking to the comics for now.

In any event, feel free to respond. I've got a number 
of other projects in my brain, but *your reply* will 
determine how many of them make it to the Web.
